![]() ![]() Some deserts will still have rain, meaning murky pools will be refilled, but they will quickly evaporate in summer. Water and wood were my only sticky points. Explorers for years will be wondering about the great rectangular pit in the middle of the desert, filled with water and strange stonework, and the treasures that live in the murky water below.Ī little off topic but I hope it gives you some inspiration. But, I decided to keep the pump stack running until the pit was mostly filled and abandoned the fortress. I left the screwpumps running while I tabbed away and returned to find the mayor's quater's flooded thanks to an overlooked diagonal channel, and water pouring out of the fortifcations into the pit below.Īside from a few drowned dwarves (the mayor and their family), pigs and some very upset wet dwarves, no major damage was done to the fortress. I had planned on making a mist generator by rerouting water from an underground cavern to a cistern above the dining hall, but I forgot that water can also spread diagonally. The entire pit was surrounded by a 3-high wall and thankfully the only sieges I had were smart enough to go down the rampway and into the loving embrace of my steel-clad defenders, rather than try and climb the wall and throw themselves to a hard, rocky grave 8 or 9 levels below. ![]() I had a spiral rampway leading to a large open plaza on the highest stone layer, where my depot and barracks were located. Nobles were housed in great manses dug into the sides north and south sides of the pit on the apartment levels, seperated from the plebs by fortifications overlooking the pit. At the north end of the pit i'd dug out my dining hall, and on the south side my temple district. Dwarves would walk down narrow stairways, down into the middle of the great pit to work. Every layer above had a 3 tile wide walkway with rooms dug into the sides. At the bottom was a walkway 7 tiles wide and open to the air, with workshops and stockpiles dug into the sides (with furnaces and smelters in the middle, out in the open, so I could imagine the smoke billowing upwards out of the pit. Then the channels got narrower and narrower until I had a kind of inverted triangular prism. I cleared a large flat area and started channeling downwards until I hit a layer that was entirely made of stone. In my last desert embark, I decided to make a Dwarven Petra (with a little Mesoamerican inspiration). Please, friend, share your mind when ready A record keeper, to chronicle the rise of our oasis state. For this I thought, if we are lucky and fast enough, we could breech the cavernous layers and setup a simple homestead to root ourselves for the next steps in our journey.įor the initial step, I have been thinking: Obviously a source of water must be found, and fast, before most other things can take place. With that in mind, The Great Lord has commissioned me and those I select to embark into the hottest of deserts to establish a settlement, to prove our worth in this world, to show Armok that his creation was worthy of his time, and before I die, this will be more than a mere settlement hidden in the ground.no, I will raise the stone and flood the lands and draw the dwarfs and create a lush land for all to witness and enjoy!Īnd for that to take place, a strong stock and plan must be discussed, so please, let us muse over this topic: The Great Lord has decided that our Dwarven Nation shouldn't only be found among the ease of the woodlands and the river, and that we can survive, and thrive, among the most treacherous lands. From the moment that Simon Applewhite shakily begins to explain the Morgon (moon-dwelling people) invasion, to the marvelous ending (which I won't give away), I was riveted. Pale Blue Moon is that odd film that completely avoids that. One of the nagging worries that I have any time that I sit down to watch a feature-length independent film is that it will drag its feet or not catch my interest until it's already half-finished. A film about the unreal realities that abound through our universe, Pale Blue Moon will take you on a trip you'll never forget. John Lefsburg is faced with the decision to either stop Simon or to believe in him. He decides to kidnap the goddaughter of the man he believes to be the ambassador of the aliens before she too is infected. Simon believes he was infected by the creatures when he was young. No one believes Simon, least of all John Lefsburg, the detective in charge of taking Simon to the mental ward. He is arrested in Giddings, Texas, while tampering with a radio tower in an effort to block alien communication to the moon. Under the pressure Simon Applewhite is coming undone. These aliens, Mor-gons or Moonies, are staging an invasion to take over the human race. They always come in threes, never twos, never fours and under no condition do they ever come alone. Here's my synopsis: From the dark side of the moon, they came for him. This movie is one of those rare movies you can watch over and over again. My rating of the 2002 movie "Pale Blue Moon" lands on a two out of ten stars. And it is definitely not a movie that I would recommend you rush out to dig up somewhere to give it a view. Nay, "Pale Blue Moon" was a swing and miss. In fact, parts of the movie were just filmed so shoddy that it felt like amateur night with a video camera. ![]() Visually then "Pale Blue Moon" offers virtually nothing worthwhile of any sorts. I am sure that the acting performances were good enough, given the material that the actors and actresses had to work with which was limiting to say the least. And little did it help that the written dialogue was just rubbish. I didn't connect with a single of the characters in the movie, and I didn't really find any of them enjoyable to watch on the screen. The characters in this movie were just laughable. Now, what made the movie crash and burn was the character gallery. I didn't really buy into the storyline and thus it was a struggle to sit through the ordeal that is "Pale Blue Moon". To me, this storyline was not entertaining, enjoyable or particularly enticing. But I must admit that I was expecting a bit more fun and laughs than what writer and director Mark Hosack could manage to deliver. I didn't really know what I was getting myself into here, as I sat down in 2021 to watch the 2002 sci-fi comedy "Pale Blue Moon". Title (Brazil): "O Extermínio" ("The Extermination") The idea of an abused boy that has a distorted view of reality is not bad, but the screenplay, performances and camera work are terrible and painful to watch. "Pale Blue Moon" is an amateurish and boring garbage with annoying characters and situations. Along his journey with Simon, Detective Lefsburg learns the truth about the Moonies. Simon escapes from John and kidnaps the goddaughter of Frank. Along their troubled journey, Simon tells that the powerful Frank Coen (Thurman Moss) is the ambassador of the aliens. Detective John Lefsburg (Johnny Sneed), who lost his daughter and has an unbalanced wife, is assigned to take Simon to a mental institution in Madison. Further, they can be identified through their right nipples. People should not look them in the eyes and the aliens communicate to the moon using the radio tower. Moonies that always come in threes, never in twos or fours or alone, from the dark side of the moon. He tells that he was abducted when he was a child by the aliens Morgons a.k.a. In Gibbings, Texas, the delusional Simon Applewhite (Íce Mrozek) is interrogated by two detectives and he tells nonsense sentences about an alien invasion. Speaking of the levels, each one is initially accessed through doors in a large overworld. It’s a very robust set of mechanics and every level is meticulously designed to test all of them.įloors, walls, ceilings, and bears? Oh my! Sweep away the dust no matter the surface! The four playable characters (Dustman, Dustgirl, Dustkid, and Dustworth) also have slightly different attributes making some more suited to certain levels than others. Furthermore, all these different abilities interact with one another in special ways depending on the situation, leading to all sorts of advanced techniques. ![]() To achieve these objectives the player has access to many useful abilities beyond basic movement like double jumps, dashing, climbing, sliding, light attacks, heavy attacks, and a super attack. Dustforce spices things up by littering each level with dust in the player’s path that they must clean up to get the best score possible. Like in most platformers, you navigate your character to the end of the level while avoiding hazards and defeating enemies. Of course presentation is always secondary to the gameplay and this is where Dustforce shines the brightest. The music and visuals together make Dustforce a mesmerizing experience, working in tandem to keep the player calm and focused at all times. Despite the intense nature of the game’s platorming challenges the music takes a very calm and relaxing tone which sounds like a contradiction on paper, but in practice helped me suppress my frustrations with my failures and focus on overcoming the obstacles standing in my way. The music in Dustforce is also brilliant. On the surface it might look a little simplistic, but the animation is extremely smooth and weighty which perfectly captures the game’s high speed platforming action. ![]() While there may not be a gripping narrative to lose yourself in, the game’s presentation more than compensates for it. Why is there so much dust? How are these janitors capable of such acrobatic feats? Don’t worry about it! There’s no real story to speak of in Dustforce, but ultimately the game doesn’t need one because playing as a janitor in a filthy environment is the only context required to understand what the goal of the game is. In Dustforce DX the player takes the role of one of four janitors and navigates them through the game’s various levels to clean up all the dust they can find. Personally, I think it’s an absolute crime that it doesn’t come up more often in the discussion of great indie games from the past ten years, and I would be very happy to explain why. It’s been nearly a decade since this game was unleashed onto the world, but it has remained relatively obscure despite positive word of mouth from those who have played it. The game was rebranded as Dustforce DX after a major content update which also occurred in 2014. Dustforce was developed by Hitbox Team and originally released for the PC in 2012 and was later ported to the Playstation 3, Playstation Vita, and Xbox 360 in 2014. (Find) Array item by property: In this example, we’ll walk through the response body where we will find array items using JavaScript’s find function, which scans the array and returns the object or value similar to the search term. Elasticsearch provides single document APIs and multi-document APIs, where the API call is targeting a single document and multiple documents respectively. This means almost all the basic data structures like strings, numbers, boolean, and other object literals are also supported in the JSON format, making it easier for users to read, manage, build, and test the data with their other software programs. JSON structureĪs described above, JSON structure is generated using arrays and objects. Since these data structures are foundational pillars of modern programming language, JSON is strong and useful data-exchange format. When we launched Postman’s universal search in 2020, the core problem we were solving was the discovery of a wide breadth of entities in Postman. For example, a collection or a workspace can be an entity. JSON supports the two most used data structures, arrays and objects. Search at Postman involves querying over many different verticals of the product. JSON data can be easily stored in a file with a file extension called. Due to its popularity and human-readable standards, most programming languages have started supporting the JSON format within their pre-built libraries, which helps users to create or parse JSON data. Though it’s very close to JavaScript object syntax, it can be independently used with different programming languages. As said earlier, it’s the most commonly used format for data exchange between two different machines running at two different locations geographically, or it can be the two applications running on the same machine. JSON is a text-based data format that’s used to represent data in a structured way based on JavaScript object syntax. Then, we’ll check out some code snippets that will help us access and test JSON properties with Postman. In this blog post, we’ll walk through an overview of JSON architecture, structure, and its examples. ![]() ![]() XML had similar popularity and usage, but that popularity has dropped over time with the adoption of JSON among tech communities. With the rise of REST APIs, the JSON format has started gaining popularity among technologists. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is one of the most used formats for sending and receiving API responses. ![]() Open a Command Prompt window on your Windows-based computer, and go to the folder that PuTTY is installed in.
